Our Leadership
The first foundation was created by Patricia Hughes in 1979 when an extensive redecoration of the public rooms was undertaken. Each administration since has established a foundation with a private board of directors, chaired (honorarily) by the first lady. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer, non-profit, non-partisan organization.

Restoration and Preservation
We endeavor to allocate the funds raised towards maintaining the building’s historical integrity while reflecting a curated modernity ensuring design relevancy for years to come. Additionally, we will direct resources to restore and preserve the Mansion complex and maintain its original glory.
Public Awareness
Through thoughtfully curated multicultural programs accessible to all we are dedicated to not only showcasing the historical importance of Government House and the arts, but also to championing the rich cultural tapestry of our Maryland communities. We can only cultivate a profound understanding of our state's heritage by embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion. In doing so, we aspire to cultivate a collective sense of pride, belonging, and unity among all citizens of Maryland.
Commissioning Official State Portraits
The Foundation will proudly commission the Governor's and First Lady’s Official State Portraits, preserving the legacies of our state's leaders for posterity. The importance of collaboration in reaching these goals cannot be overstated. Your support will be bolstered by that of others sharing our passion for history, culture, and progressive community development. Furthermore, your contribution positions you as an integral part of the ongoing legacy that Government House represents.
